Northern Ireland’s Soul Superstar Launches New Album with Powerful Performance in St. Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast on the 22nd July 2017.
Kaz Hawkins traded in her rhythm and blues troupe of merry men, the Kaz Hawkins Band for Pianist Sam York and the serene surroundings of St. Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast for the launch of her brand new album “Don’t You Know”.
Guitar strings had a hiatus as heartstrings were instead to be strummed through the 2 hour powerhouse performance featuring new tracks and reworkings of Kaz’ catalogue which feature on the new record.
Each song a chapter in the life of the Soul Superstar packed with emotionally charged lyrics brought to life by ground shaking vocals backed by beautifully clean piano accompaniment.
Plagued with hurt, loss and loneliness the story could be confused with that of a tragedy. However while this story takes listeners into a dark tunnel it never let’s them forget that at the end of that tunnel there will always be a light.
The stories protagonist not a person of superpowers or a controller of mystical forces, instead someone who was dealt bad hands in many shuffles of the cards.
That same ordinary person decided that if the cards weren’t going to playout in her favour then she would change the game, and from there Kaz began a long battle to recapture that which she had lost, as well as finding the performer that stands on stage on night’s like this concert.
This album may tell the story so far, but there’s no doubt many more additions to this anthology as Kaz Hawkins’ continues her journey through life spreading not just her love of music, but the stories behind the notes.
